Artist’s Statement – Jalilla Art
About
Art is my sanity and my meditation. It helps to ground me and to balance out the various parts of my life.
My current art journey is with acrylics, mixed media and texture on canvas, board, and paper. I’m also exploring pen, ink and water colour, both in the studio and during plein air sketching.
I love working with strong colour, especially landscape and botanical colours. I also enjoy exploring the impact of light on a painting’s look and feel.
I mix photography with sketching especially when I travel, to capture images, thoughts and impressions. I’ve started combining my travels with art retreats / workshops to add an extra layer of enjoyment and structure to my travels.
I love exploring different perspectives of subjects, ranging from a macro-level to a birds-eye view, and from semi-abstract through to more realistic. I enjoy depicting both urban and non-urban views, but I find that I keep returning to botanical-related subjects and landscapes for my ‘happy place’.
